Severe Bleeding
- Apply firm, direct pressure with a clean cloth
- Do NOT remove the cloth — add more on top if soaked
- Elevate the wound above heart level if possible
- Apply tourniquet 2–3 inches above wound for life-threatening limb bleeding
- Note time tourniquet applied — do not remove
Burns
- Cool the burn with cool (not cold) running water for 20 minutes
- Do NOT use butter, ice, or toothpaste
- Cover with a clean, non-fluffy material
- Seek medical help for burns larger than 3 inches or on face/hands/genitals
Choking (conscious adult)
- Encourage coughing if they can cough at all
- 5 back blows between shoulder blades with heel of hand
- 5 abdominal thrusts (Heimlich manoeuvre)
- Alternate back blows and abdominal thrusts until cleared
Fractures & Sprains
- R.I.C.E: Rest, Ice (20 min on/off), Compression, Elevation
- Splint in the position found — do not straighten
- Pad the splint for comfort
- Check circulation below the injury every 15 minutes
Shock
- Lay person flat — raise legs 12 inches if no head/spine injury
- Keep warm with blanket
- Do NOT give food or water
- Monitor breathing and pulse continuously
